JOSEPH HOLWAY

Founding Director

Joseph Holway is a Ph.D. student at Arizona State University working under Dr. John Sabo. His research focuses on the Impacts of hydrologic variance on the Tonlè Sap Fishery utilizing a functional traits approach. While attending the 2019 Mekong Research Symposium, he saw a need to increase participation among the next generation of leaders, leading him to become the founding director of NexGen Mekong Scientists. He is a 21-22 Cambodia Fulbright semi-finalist.

DR. MATTHEW ANDERSEN

Advisor

Dr. Matthew Andersen has been the Senior Scientist for Biology in the United States Geological Survey (USGS) Director’s Office of International Programs (OIP). He is an ichthyologist and aquatic ecologist by training. He has developed and leads a decision support program for natural resource management in the Lower Mekong River region from 2020-22 funded, by the US State Department.

DR. ALLIE DAVIS

Advisor

Dr. Allie Davis completed her Ph.D. researching sustainable sanitation systems in India, analyzing the influence of resource recovery on community priorities and long-term sustainability. Post graduation, Allie accepted the AIP State Department Fellowship through a placement with the Bureau of Oceans, Environment, and Science (OES) in the Office of Environment, Conservation, and Wildlife (ECW) on the Water Team.

DR. COURTNEY HILL

Advisor

Dr. Courtney Hill completing her Ph.D. in civil and environmental engineering at the University of Virginia as a National Science Fellow and a Jefferson Fellow. Her doctoral research focuses on low-cost ways to treat water in rural South Africa.

DR. THO H. NGUYEN

Advisor

Dr. Tho H. Nguyen is a Senior Scientist in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Virginia and Associate Professor of Computer Science (by courtesy) at the University of Virginia College at Wise. He also manages the ACCORD Advanced Cyberinstrument Program for the UVA Office of the Vice President for IT.

DR. JOHN SABO

President

Dr. John Sabo is a professor of river ecology and water resources in the School of Life Sciences and founding director of Future H2O in the Arizona State University Knowledge Enterprise. He is also a senior sustainability scientist in the Julie Ann Wrigley Global Institute of Sustainability, a fellow in the Institute for the Future of Innovation in Society, an honors faculty in the Barrett Honors College, and serves on the graduate faculty in the Hydrosystems Engineering Graduate Program.
